We chose Charleston, SC as our family vacation destination this summer. Of course–when we got there–we were told that we had picked the hottest week of the summer to visit. :( But, being from Florida, we are kind of used to the heat and humidity. We absolutely loved our time in this gorgeous, historic city. Here are some images I took as we strolled around the downtown area.
One of the highlights of our vacation was the food tour we took with Charleston Culinary Tours. “Hoon” was our tour guide. He was relaxed yet informative, friendly, and hilarious! We learned a lot more than we expected as we sampled menu items from some of Charleston’s finest restaurants.
We also visited the sidewalk memorial at Emmanuel AME Church. In the wake of the horrible massacre that took place there, I am encouraged by the strong support of the community. “Charleston strong” signs are EVERYWHERE. My family and I have prayed for the victims’ families, and it was very meaningful for us to visit the church and pay our respects in person.
While we were in Charleston, my family also enjoyed an interactive aquarium, Fort Sumter, and Boone Hall Plantation. If you are looking for a friendly city that is rich in history, Charleston is the perfect travel destination.
