I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…..I LOVE repeat clients! When I first met this gorgeous family, their had just recently been born. I did a sweet newborn session in their home. It was a combination lifestyle/studio session. They are such a sweet family, and their first session with me was awesome!
Even though I’m now narrowing my main focus in my business to photographing weddings, engagements, and maternity…..I was thrilled to photograph this family again for their Christmas pictures. I was even more excited when they chose Big Talbot Island for the location. If you’ve never been, you should know that the beach there is AMAZING! Fortunately, we scheduled the session on that day when the tide was super low, exposing all of the beautiful driftwood formations on the beach.
Here’s a little tip: (And I may or may not have learned this the hard way.) If you want to do a session on the beach…..pretty much any beach….check the tide schedule. It’s really easy to look up for any shoreline location. (I’m so thankful for the internet!) If the tide is too high, you will have very little–if any– room to photograph. In fact, on Big Talbot Island, the water completely covers all of the driftwood at high tide. So do yourself a favor and CHECK THE TIDES!
Also, be mindful that the temperature at the beach can be VERY different from inland temperatures. During a more recent beach session, it was about ten degrees cooler than it was in town. And the wind speeds were much higher. So be prepared. In addition, storms can arise and move in quickly. It’s Florida, so you never know.
It was wonderful to be able to use the beach for this particular family because they aren’t from here. Due to work issues, they won’t live here forever. Having Christmas pictures on the beach will be a great reminder in years to come of their special time in Florida with their first baby!
