This is officially Valentine’s Weekend!!!
Last Friday, I shared about true love. If you missed it you can link to that post HERE.
I don’t post a lot of selfies. Really, I don’t post many pictures of myself at all. (I know I should post more…..it’s just a matter of doing it.) I also don’t post a ton of pictures of my family.
But today I want to introduce you to someone special. He’s my best friend and the love of my life: Troy Dixon.
Here are a few pictures of the two of us. Jenn Guthrie took these as part of our family session last fall. She did a great job!
Troy and I met when I was a junior in high school. He is a few years older than me, so he had already graduated. We met at church, which is a wonderful place to meet! To be more specific, he was actually a member of the pastor search committee that called my father (a minister) to be the senior pastor at Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
We didn’t start dating right away. However, I think that’s a good thing. Over the course of a little over a year, we became very good friends. And that led to dating…..followed by a 2 1/2 year engagement…..and then our wedding. I’m going to give away my age here, but this July we will have been married for 25 years!!!
When Troy and I first married, he worked for a large insurance company in Jacksonville. After a while, he felt called to go into the ministry and become a pastor. With our first little boy (2 years old at the time) in tow, we both quit our jobs, sold our house, and moved to Graceville, Florida. There, Troy attended and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in theology. By this time, we had another little boy (exactly two years old). Troy accepted the role of senior pastor at a church near Tuscaloosa, Alabama. We stayed there for about 6 1/2 years, until Troy and I felt led to return to Jacksonville for him to pastor Normandy Park Baptist Church. (This time, we also had a beautiful little girl, who was almost 2 years old at the time.)
We haven’t moved again. We have no more toddlers to turn two years old!
Seriously, I can’t imagine life without Troy. He’s my true love, supporter, provider, confidant, partner, and my very best friend on this earth. Don’t get me wrong; he’s not perfect. No one is but God, of course. But we click. Even though he teases me a lot, we actually get along fairly well. I’m so blessed to have a godly man as my husband and the father of our children!
